BC Hydro Just Announced Its Biggest-Ever Energy Program — Here's What It Means for Victoria & Vancouver Island Homeowners

BC Hydro has launched Power Smart 2.0, the largest conservation investment in the utility's history — a $1 billion commitment to help British Columbians cut energy costs and improve home resilience. BC Hydro estimates an average electrically heated home taking full advantage of the available programs could offset as much as a third — and in some cases nearly half — of their annual electricity bill.

The Incentives That Matter Most

🔋 Home Battery Storage — Up to $5,000

BC Hydro is offering up to $5,000 for residential battery storage systems enrolled in their Peak Saver program, which allows BC Hydro to draw from your battery during high-demand periods in exchange for rebates and bill savings.

🌡️ Free Smart Thermostats — Coming Fall 2026

BC Hydro will be offering free smart thermostats (valued at $350) for homes with electric baseboard heating. When that rollout begins, homeowners will need a qualified electrician to handle installation — that's where we come in.

🏢 Business Battery Storage — Up to $10,000

Commercial customers can access rebates of up to $10,000 for battery storage systems. Larger businesses with systems exceeding 100 kWh can access BC Hydro's demand response energy storage incentive program.
